Description
This online learning package is designed to assist educators in creating accessible written information about online safety for young people with low English literacy and communication access requirements. Developed through a national grant from the eSafety Commissioner, it addresses the unique online safety needs of children and young people with communication disabilities, cognitive impairments, and low literacy levels.
This eLearning program will teach educators how to tailor their training for individuals with low literacy and support teachers in using various communication resources for people with communication access requirements. Additionally, it will empower teachers to audit their existing resources to ensure they are communication accessible.
The package consists of four eLearning modules:
Background and Accessibility: Learn about communication access, accessible information, and its importance.
Plain Language and Easy English: Explore Easy English and Plain Language writing styles in detail.
eSafety Resources: Understand the role of support people and start using communication resources developed as part of the Be Safe Online project.
Tools and Strategies: Learn how to use a communication tool and apply strategies to communicate effectively about online safety.
In addition, there is a “Be Safe Online” Toolkit targeted at educators who create online safety content for those with limited literacy and/or communication disabilities.
This content is hosted on the Go1 learning platform. Access is provided for 12 months from the date of activation.
